PART 3 EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATION
A. Condition and Cleaning of Wooden Subfloor: The wooden subfloor must be fully secured, nailed or screwed, structurally sound and broom clean. Deflection shall not exceed L/360th of the span including live and dead loads. Fill cracks and holes in the floor with crack filler or caulk.
B. Seal the Wooden Subfloor: The day before the pour, seal the wood with 1-2 coats of Manufacturer Approved Sealer diluted 1:1 with water sprayed, rolled or broomed on at 300 sq. ft./gal (7.3 m2/L), or staple a slipsheet such as Maxxon Moistop across the entire wood floor.
C. Prime the Wooden Subfloor: The wood subfloor must be primed. Prime the sealed subfloor with Manufacturer Approved Primer following Rapid Floor Systems bonding procedures #109. If a slipsheet is used, the subfloor does not have to be primed.
D. Mesh Reinforcement: Staple a thin (2.5 or 3.4 lb./sq. yd.), galvanized diamond metal lath mesh to the subfloor, overlapping the lath where it meets. This is done across the entire floor.
E. Expansion Joints: Allow joints to continue through the Commercial Topping at the same width.
3.02 APPLICATION OF CEMENTITIOUS FLOORING
A. Scheduling: Application of Commercial Topping shall not begin until the building is enclosed, including roof, windows, doors, and other fenestration. Install after drywall installation unless tenant finish requirements identify partitioning after the pour.
B. Application: Place Commercial Topping at 3/4" (19 mm) minimum over the surface of the wooden subfloor. Spread and screed Commercial Topping to a smooth surface. Except at authorized joints, place Commercial Topping as continuously as possible until application is complete so that no Commercial Topping slurry is placed against Commercial Topping product that has obtained its initial set.
C. Drying: General Contractor shall provide continuous ventilation and adequate heat. With
Commercial Topping there's no extensive curing time. Other floor goods can be installed once Commercial Topping passes a moisture test.
3.03 PREPARATION FOR INSTALLATION OF GLUE DOWN FLOOR GOODS
A. Sealing: Seal all areas that receive glue down floor goods with Manufacturer Approved Sealer according to the Rapid Floor System's specifications. Any floor areas where the surface has been damaged shall be cleaned and sealed regardless of floor covering to be used. Where floor goods manufacturers require special adhesive or installation systems, their requirements supersede these recommendations.
B. Floor Goods Procedures: See the brochure "Procedures for Attaching Finished Floor Goods" for guidelines for installing finished floor goods. This procedure is not a warranty and is to be used as a guideline only.
3.04 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Slump Test: Commercial Topping mix shall be tested for slump as it's being pumped using a 2 inch by 4 inch (50 mm by 101 mm) cylinder resulting in a patty size of 8 inches (203 mm) plus or minus 1 inch (25 mm) diameter.
B. Field Samples: At least one set of 3 molded cube samples shall be taken from each day's pour during the Commercial Topping application. Cubes shall be tested as recommended by Rapid Floor Systems in accordance with modified ASTM C 109. Test results shall be available to architect and/or contractor upon request from applicator.
3.05 PROTECTION
A. Protection From Heavy Loads: During construction, place temporary wood planking over Commercial Topping wherever it will be subject to heavy wheeled or concentrated loads.
